I'm a writer at the beginning. I'm working on my first novel and trying to understand — really understand — how great stories are built from the inside out.

I'm drawn to character-driven literary fiction: stories where the real conflict is internal, where characters are shaped by things they can't fully see in themselves, and where the ending feels inevitable in retrospect.

This site is where I work in public. Colin Writes is where my fiction and essays live. Colin Reads is where I think through the books that are teaching me how to do this.
