Homegoing

Let's balance out all those 5 star reviews a little bit-- Homegoing is overrated for what it is.

That's not to say that there aren't some interesting narrative threads, but it feels like some get lost, some don't belong, and those that remain struggle to form themselves into a cohesive tapestry.

Unfortunately, this leads one to conclude that Gyasi was overambitious-- there is too much going on here, too many characters, too many years covered. At it's core, Homegoing contains wonderful themes and messages, but they are detracted from by an attempt to write the next great epic, in which the execution is lacking.
