Invisible Cities
Calvino’s prose is undeniably beautiful! And the premise is brilliant: Marco Polo describes fantastical cities to Kublai Khan.
Unfortunately, the unconventional narrative structure here was something more to appreciate than to enjoy.
I found it hard to stay engaged, as it eventually felt like reliving the same dream over and over, with only small details shifting. The “is it real or imagined?” angle wore thin for me. Overall, it was still a fascinating book I might revisit someday, but not soon.
