The Dutch House

The Dutch House succeeds as a case study of how a dysfunctional family life affects our protagonist. The circumstances surrounding the dysfunction, however, are uninteresting. Thus, Patchett resorts to holding the the reader’s attention through the many meandering thoughts of her characters, very few of which end up being all that memorable.
