The Maidens

2.5 out of 5 stars seems like the perfect rating to represent the half-baked feel of The Maidens. This story had all the right ingredients, and so much potential, but in the end it just falls flat due to poor execution. I read this practically back-to-back with The Silent Patient, and it’s clear that where that novel succeeded, this one has issues. The characters in The Maidens are less relatable and I think that that Michaelides relies too heavily on the plot to carry the reader through to the end of the book. But, unfortunately it was a struggle for me to finish this novel because many of the promising ideas contained within really missed the mark.
