In The Mountain Between Us, any suspense related to whether or not the protagonists survive is overshadowed by the entertaining banter between them and inner monologues of quieter moments. Some of this novel's cheesier moments may make you gag, and the plot may be a bit predictable, but there are still some gems of wisdom to be found in the character's backstories and how they affect each other while facing the prospect of death together.
