Upgrade

With Upgrade, Crouch executes a well-paced story while delving into many interesting aspects of genetics. However, the hardest hitting aspects of the novel clearly aren’t the suspense or character development, but rather the ethical implications of gene editing for the human race. Even so, it feels like the gene tech itself could have played a more mind-blowing role that it did in this story. In the end, Crouch’s insight into human nature is by far the most memorable aspect of Upgrade.
